I'm thinking of throwing a fund-raising party, how do I make money for the charity from it?

I'm going to volunteer as a health education teacher in rural Tanzania for 8 months, and need to raise £3600 for the charity to support my work out there.

I'm already 40% of the way to raising that total, after asking friends and family, and raising sponsorhip from fellow students for going to all my uni exams with my face painted as different safari animals. - http://justgiving.com/dipakkapur

Now I would like to throw a party in a pub either in London or Bristol, to which I could probably get 100 people to show up. A percentage of bar profits is not an option, and I'd rather not charge people for entry, are there any other methods of party fundraising that could work?

Set up a donation bucket. Another option is doing a donation lottery. Put different amounts on each ticket and as people come in they can draw out a ticket. Whatever amount is on the ticket they would donate to the charity.

  1. YOu could charge per head to enter and or per drink. I would see if you could get the pubs owners to give you a share of the procedes! Hang up lots of flyers and with any luck people will come.

  3. Get a band to come and play and sponser your cause or just to make the party better. Before the show announce that you put the party together for (insert reason) and donations would be greatly appreciated but not expected!

  4. You could hold a raffle and sell the tickets before hand.

  5. im not kidding you:

buy toilet paper buy bulk and sell the indivisually wrapped rolls (from costco, sams club, etc) for more then the actual cost per roll. they sell well in camp grounds, beaches, public parks, or anywhere else with trashy, toiletpaperfree restrooms.

  6. Buy a bunch of hot dogs and rolls and have a tailgate sale. Go to a nearby park or open space like a beach and put up a big sign explaining your cause. People might be more inclined to help you if liquor was not involved. Get a scouting group to help you. People are often more likely to contribute to a cause when a youngster is involved. Go to clergy and ask them if you can make a plea during a service or another event like a choir concert. Good Luck.
